About
Room Tone is a weekly interview show about work that rarely gets noticed: the baker who starts at three, the mechanic who reads a bike like a diary, the printer who can hear a loose line of type.
We record in the guest’s own room whenever we can, with the oven on or the press running. The room is half the story, so we keep a little of it in every episode.
Each episode is about twenty minutes, cut from a two-hour conversation. New episodes come out on Thursdays.
The hosts

Ada Lindqvist
Host · Editor
Ada spent ten years cutting radio documentaries. She edits every episode and still checks the room tone by ear.
How an episode is made
Four steps, about three weeks.
01
Find the person
Listeners send most of our guests. We look for work that is skilled, physical and rarely explained.
02
Visit the room
We go there first without a microphone, to hear the room and find a quiet corner.
03
Record for two hours
Two microphones, one recorder, thirty seconds of room tone before anyone speaks.
04
Cut it to twenty minutes
Ada edits for a week. We keep the pauses that matter and lose the rest.
